Following a Swiss TV Interview some months ago, where Khatia Buniatishvili delivered the impression of being an artist of high retention, she was invited by Migros Kulturprozent Classics to perform at Kulturcasino Berne together with the Orchestre de Paris.
The program could not have been more distinguished. Dubugnons Arcanes Symphoniques, Schumanns Piano Concerto 1, and Shostakovichs sixth Symphony promised to shape the evening with discovery, genius in controlled poly valency, and master-ship in double Irony.
Khatia Buniatishvilis performance had the maturity of a master in his fifties.
Without any exception she kept very close to the score, balanced the sound like she was playing this hall and piano since ages, and held the outbursts – typical for Schumann – subtle enough to unfold this unique compositional coherence.
The Orchestre de Paris must have felt at home in the hall of Kulturcasino Berne.
It’s very seldom to have the privilege of listening to such an unified, tempered and expressive orchestral sound.
Thanks lot to the Kulturcasino and the Migros Kulturprozent Classics.
